America’s Got Talent season 18 – who is Putri Ariani?

It’s 2023, and AGT‘s season 18 is on the run.

Auditions started on June 6, and new acts are coming to the stage of getting a ‘yes’ from the judges.

Seventeen-year-old Indonesian singer, Putri Ariani shot to captivate global viewers with her soothing voice in an AGT audition on Tuesday.

Her voice swept the judges and reality show’s audience off their feet, winning the highly coveted golden buzzer from the dark lord (as people say) himself, Simon Cowell.

So, who Putri Ariani really is? A sensational voice and a powerful story await.

Who is Putri Ariani?

Ariani Nisma Putri (born December 31, 2005), better known as Putri Ariani, is an Indonesian singer-songwriter with a visual impairment.

Putri was born as Ariani Nisma Putri in Bankinang, Kampar, Riau.

She is the first child of three of Ismawan Kurnianto (father) and Reni Alfianty (mother).

Ariani has two sibling sisters, Devina Elysia, and Vania Larissa.

She is blind

Putri was born prematurely at 6 months and 18 days of gestation.

Her mother, Reni, placenta previa, and the doctor said to choose one of them, either the child or the mother.

After birth, she was kept in a baby incubator for 3 months.

Putri was later sentenced to have cataracts.

Her parents took Ariani for treatment in Singapore, where the doctor said that she had retinopathy of prematurity.

Ariani was declared completely bling when she was 3 months old.

During a TEDx performance, she said,

“I will never give up because I know that I’m invincible, not invisible. I’m capable. I’m powerful. I’m brave. I’m spectacular. I believe that everyone has their own potential.”

Putri earns Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer

In 2023, Ariani auditioned in AGT season 18, and performed her original song, ‘Loneliness.’

After ending her first performance, Simon asked her to sing one more song. Putri then performed ‘Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest’ by Elton John.

The standing ovation from the audience and judges, followed by Simon’s ‘golden’ Golden buzzer, made her burst into tears.

Putri also revealed her audition in her IG and wrote:

“I have auditioned for @agt season 18, my audition will be this coming Tuesday, June 6th at 8/7c on NBC, so mark your calendars!”

“I cannot wait to share more about my fun American adventure and take you along on the journey to the stage for @agtauditions.”

She won Indonesia’s Got Talent Season 2

In 2014, Putri auditioned for Indonesia’s Got Talent season 2.

The then eight years old singer performed ‘Listen’ by Beyonce, and won the hearts of all the judges.

When she was asked which Indonesian singer does she like the most, Putri mentioned Anggun.

She added:

“Dad even though I can’t see but I want somebody else to see me.”

In the finals, she performed the song, ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion.

Putri managed to get the highest SMS voting acquisition and as a winner, she received $33,600.

She can play musical instruments

Despite being blind, Putri is highly skilled at the piano.

In most of her songs, she plays piano herself.

Also, she loves playing the flute and the guitar.

Putri already released original music

Ariani is already into music, and she dropped her debut album Melihat Dengan Hati in 2020.

Apart from that, she has released several singles to date.

Her most recent single is titled ‘Kamu Lagi.’
